The NJ LEE Application Period
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJCSC) posted the formal announcement and opened the online application portal for the 2025 NJ LEE on March 1, 2025. The NJCSC formal application period closes on March 31, 2025.
The NJCSC has implemented annual NJ LEE testing. The NJCSC commonly facilitates the administration of the NJ LEE exam during the months of July into August. The NJCSC gives candidates the opportunity to select from several available test dates. Those candidates who properly apply for the NJ LEE will have the opportunity later in the process and closer to the summer to select a test date, time, and location from a list of online options.
Only those departments/jurisdictions that “opted in” for this NJ LEE cycle are included in the announcement. Any department/jurisdiction that did not opt in will simply extend the existing list from the agency’s previous NJ LEE cycle. Any candidate who tested in 2023 or 2024 for a department/jurisdiction that has an announcement as part of this year’s NJ LEE cycle will need to test again this year to be a part of that department’s list once the 2025 results come out.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE NJ LEE
You can access the formal NJ Civil Service Commission online Application at: NJCSC NJ LEE (Click Here).
The NJCSC CLOSING DATE for NJ LEE applications is set as March 31, 2025.
IMPORTANT: In a very confusing way, the NJCSC has modified the normal application process for the NJ LEE and now requires that interested candidates submit individual applications online for each title and jurisdiction for which he or she would like to be eligible. It is important to note that most jurisdictions have residency preferences, so residents are placed ahead of non-residents on the formal list. Candidates should look at which jurisdictional area is listed as (1) within the column entitled “open to residents of” on the NJCSC job posting portal at: https://info.csc.state.nj.us/. The candidate should compare his or her personal residency location and make sure it matches up with the jurisdictional area listed as (1) in the portal. Hiring agencies will draw from the jurisdictional area listed as (1) as their primary list. Only a few departments in the state make it to the jurisdictional area listed as (2) during the life of the list. Of course, everyone applying is a NJ resident, so everyone is residency eligible for the NJ State titles that are listed. Most of the municipal police agencies have a “residency preference” and pull from their local residents first.
This process is very important, as the lists generated from the NJ LEE can be extended up to 4 years.
NOTE: The NJ LEE is also used for Parole Officer Recruit as well as the NJDOC titles.
I look forward to having the opportunity to help you achieve an exceptional score on the 2025 NJ LEE!
