The City of Chicago is once again accepting online applications through Monday, October 16, 2017, for the position of police officer for the Saturday, December 16, 2017, administration of the written examination. The exam is being administered to help in the city’s on-going efforts to hire 1,000 new officers.
The exam is open to non-residents (U.S. citizens) who will be at least 20 years of age by December 31, 2017, and the maximum age is 40. Residency and reaching the age of 21 is required at the time of appointment. The starting annual salary is $48,078, which increases to an annual salary of $72,510 after eighteen (18) months. The very detailed job information and requirements are all listed in the “Announcement and Application” link (below) under “Police Officer” once accessed.
Unfortunately, as with many of the large city and state law enforcement agencies throughout the country, Chicago PD relies on a “lottery system” to choose candidates who pass the written exam to continue in the hiring process.
Candidates interested in preparing for the exam should access (click) and complete the CCS Test Prep® Inquiry Form .
