UPDATE (April 30, 2018) – The current New Jersey entry-level police officer testing opportunities with application periods open at this time include two Alternate Route Program (police academy) exams as well as several municipal police departments. Most of the testing opportunities will involve the use of either the IOS NCJOSI v1 (90 min) exam or the IOS NCJOSI v2 (2.5 hour) exam as administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP).
The municipal police departments currently include the Emerson Police Department in Bergen County and the Washington Township Police Department in Morris County. The Toms River Police Department in Ocean County is expected to open their application period on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, and may be using a new exam type. The current Alternate Route Programs with open application periods include the Essex County Police Academy and the Cape May County Police Academy. The Morris County Police Academy will open their Alternate Route Program application period on June 24th, 2018.
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJCSC) recently posted a notice that the next Law Enforcement Exam (LEE) will not be formally announced and administered until 2019. The LEE involves the use of the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery (LEAB) by EB Jacobs – PSI. Candidates motivated to prepare for the 2019 LEE are encouraged to apply to take the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Cadet (Trooper) exam. Currently, the PSP exam is the only version of the LEAB being administered in the New Jersey area. The PSP process differs from the New Jersey LEE in that the PSP process involves a computer-based written version of the LEAB followed within weeks by a scored (structured) interview for those candidates who score high enough on the written exam. The PSP process serves as excellent practice for aspiring New Jersey LEE candidates.
CCS Test Prep® has programs available for all of the upcoming exams. Candidates are also encouraged to regularly monitor the CCS Test Prep® “Upcoming Tests” page to quickly see which agencies or academies are testing in New Jersey and beyond. The page is updated daily.
